there-can-be-only-oneIDW Publishing is all set to revive another popular franchise as they are giving us a ‘Highlander‘ miniseries! They’ve been highly successful with ‘Transformers’, ‘G.I.Joe’, ‘Revolutions’, ‘Back to the Future’, ‘Orphan Black’, and so many more that this one seems like a no brainer to fit in. The series is going prequel here and will be taking place prior to the 1986 feature film which took the world by storm and will be written by Brian Ruckley with artwork by Andrea Mutti.

We’ll be following the character made popular by Christopher Lambert and see Connor MacLeod in both medieval Scottland to various periods of America’s past. From a Civil-War era Pennsylvania to a mid-20th century New York, we’ll be following MacLeod who is settling into the United States in various time periods and hiding his immortal status which is something I’m sure will become more difficult as time moves on.

Not only will we see some classic characters but new ones as well such as the fellow immortal Osta Vazilek who likely won’t be surviving the ordeal if they stick to the cinematic outcome of the series.

According to senior editor Denton J. Tipton:

“In the 30 years since its release, Highlander has inspired a massive cult following that craves new stories based on the original film. “Many have tried, to varying degrees of success, but Brian has crafted an exciting narrative that will honor and bolster the underpinnings of Highlander. Also, epic sword fights!”

The licensing agent at Creative Licensing Brent Marlis added that:

“We are thrilled for this partnership with IDW, as they have a tremendously talented team who will be creating a story that is both authentic to the original Highlander film and innovative to attract new fans alike.”
