Can’t get enough of the ‘Voltron‘ renaissance from the new Netflix series? Universal Pictures has your back with a live-action ‘Voltron’ film in the works! 80’s properties are hot right now and have been for quite some time so it should be no surprise that a studio would want to bring one of the most well-known American animations that seem to have been lifted from the pages of a manga or anime show. With pop culture being so popular these days and special effects coming in at increasingly more affordable rates this seem to be the perfect time for the franchise to have a live action adaptation if we want one or not, and, to be honest, I’m a little intrigued at the possibilities. Not too much to go on with the direction of the film as of yet but we do know that David Hayter (‘X-Men’,’Watchmen’) will be penning the script.

Seems like a good fit for writing duties if you ask me.

A live-action take on the series which gives five space pilots having to defend the universe using lions who combine to form the mighty Voltron is one that has been in talks for decades and hasn’t been able to get off the ground. From high budgets to legal issues it was just never feasible until now but Mark Gordon has had his eyes set on making this a reality ever since ‘Transformers’ rocked the box office.

When Universal Studios purchased DreamWorks Animation in April the studio also picked up the rights to the film and have decided to move forward with it. Sadly, producers from the animated series have said that the new film will have no ties to the original show or showrunners so with a new take in the works this could always potentially bastardize the source material.

It worked for ‘Transformers’ so they might go for trying to be original here as well.

Are you looking forward to a live-action ‘Voltron’ or do we have enough giant robot franchises with ‘Transformers’ and ‘Pacific Rim?’ Share your thoughts below!
