Benedict Cumberbatch recently discussed the possibility of carrying his ‘Doctor Strange’ over to ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ due in 2018.  He pointed out the logistical problem with lining up the schedules of all the actors required but seemed excited at the possibility.

“To get us all together will be quite something. That’s why this character is being introduced, to open up the next chapter. So watch this space see how that unfolds.”

At a press conference to promote ‘Doctor Strange’, Cumberbatch and Marvel Studios Kevin Feige took questions.  And of course, one was to confirm whether or not Strange would appear in ‘Infinity War’.  Cumberbatch referred to Feige who confirmed that YES indeed he would.  But he offered no additional information.

Another topic that came up was the question of the Illuminati, a secret inner circle of some of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Universe that included Strange as well as Iron Man, Black Bolt, Namor the Sub-Mariner, Professor X and Mister Fantastic.

Feige wouldn’t come right out and say that the Illuminati would appear in ‘Infinity War’ but mused:

“Well, what’s fun about the Illuminati is that there are certain characters interacting with other certain characters, so I don’t know about that particular storyline, but certainly some of those characters you will see on screen in the next Avengers.”

Obviously, Professor X and Mister Fantastic are off-limits because their rights belonging to Fox.  Black Bolt and Namor haven’t appeared in the films yet.  So… that leaves Stark.  Not much of a shock that Stark will appear.

The Illuminati has also included Black Panther, Captain America and The Hulk… once again, no big shockers there.

But… perhaps we’ll see The Inhumans, whose movie has been postponed indefinitely or Namor, who has been rumored to be getting a movie at some point.

Are you glad that Doctor Strange will be in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’?  Which Illuminati characters would you like to see?

Directed by Scott Derrickson, ‘Doctor Strange’ starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Mads Mikkelsen, and Tilda Swinton materialized in theaters on November 4th.
