annabelle-2

‘Annabelle 2’ is believed to actually be a prequel to the 2014 original.  Directed by David F. Sandberg, ‘Annabelle 2′ reportedly stars Miranda Otto (’24: Legacy’, ‘Homeland’) as the disfigured recluse wife of a dollmaker, whose daughter tragically dies.  20 years later, the couple open their home to a nun, Sister Charlotte (Stephanie Sigman, ‘Spectre’, ‘Narcos’) and a group of girls from a recently shut down orphanage.  But this is no safe haven as Annabelle soon sets her sights on the orphans.

The script was written by Gary Dauberman, who penned the first ‘Annabelle’.  James Wan and Peter Safran serve as producers.

‘Annabelle 2’ doesn’t open until next spring, so it’s unusual that a horror movie trailer is emerging this early, but I guess any publicity is good publicity and it doesn’t hurt to help get people buzzing.

And of course, this is more of a teaser than a full trailer, but the titular doll from hell is clearly visible and this may, perhaps explain what happened to the daughter of the dollmaker and his wife, which forced them to lock themselves away from the world.

The first ‘Annabelle’ took in $256 million worldwide just two years ago in 2014.  So it was a no-brainer that New Line Cinema would crank out another one.  ‘Annabelle’ is, after all, a spinoff from ‘The Conjuring’ franchise.  The second film in that franchise was a huge hit earlier this year.

A third spinoff, ‘The Nun’ has been announced with David Leslie Johnson working on the script.  A release date hasn’t been announced yet.

‘Annabelle 2’ directed by David F. Sandberg, starring Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman, Alicia Vela-Bailey, Anthony LaPaglia, Tabitha Bateman, Lulu Wilson and Adam Bartley, will play with your fears on May 19, 2017.
