Well, the cat is out of the bag now. After at least a year of speculation about whether or not the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ heroes would be appearing in ‘Avengers: The Infinity War,’ we seem to finally have confirmation, and from a very legitimate source. According to a recent post by Vin Diesel on Facebook:
“….the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that’s incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting. Incredibly exciting and something that if you were a part of our page you knew before everybody.”
Of course, since most of us were expecting this anyways, it’s not exactly huge news, but it is nice to see it confirmed, as it gives us a whole lot more to be excited about (although ‘Avengers: The Infinity War’ was already pretty exciting, so this is just icing on the cake). Of course, as some have pointed out, being “included” does not necessarily mean that the Guardians will be fighting alongside the Avengers. There is a chance that part of the movie will take place in outer space where the Guardians roam as they attempt to stop Thanos from getting the stones, and then the film could shift to Thanos coming to earth and dealing with the Avengers, with the two groups of heroes never actually meeting or sharing screen time. But since that would be exceptionally disappointing, I honestly do not think Marvel or the Russo brothers would go that direction, but it is still a possibility.
Also interesting is the fact that ‘Guardians’ director James Gunn has stated that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2′ will not feature Thanos or the Infinity Stones, which means some other event will have to bring them back onto Thanos’ radar (or Thanos onto their radar?) in time for ‘The Infinity War.’ Perhaps there will be some kind of cosmic distress call Tony Stark sends out into the universe that the Guardians feel compelled to answer since it is Peter Quill’s homeworld? Who knows.
