Jason OMara Terra Nova

In the shocking season three finale of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, we learned that Daisy Johnson is on the run and Phil Coulson is no longer the director of the covert peace-keeping organization. Though True Believers are excited to see Ghost Rider and possibly some classic Inhuman characters in season four, everyone is still wondering who the new head of S.H.I.E.L.D. is on the popular ABC superhero drama. And surprisingly, the answer is Batman.

According to Marvel.com, Jason O’Mara will follow in the footsteps of Nick Fury, Robert Gonzales, and Phil Coulson and become the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the fourth season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’. Known for working on projects such as ‘Resident Evil: Extinction’, ‘Life on Mars’, ‘Terra Nova’, and ‘The Good Wife’, O’Mara is probably most recognizable as the voice of the Dark Knight in recent DC animated features ‘Justice League: War’, ‘Son of Batman’, ‘Justice League: Throne of Atlantis’, and more. But in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the actor will play “a character whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s”. Whether that refers the Golden Age of Marvel Comics or the ‘Agent Carter’ era of the MCU remains to be seen, but as we anxiously wait for that answer, here’s what Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb has to say about the casting:

“Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency. Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

With no real clues as to who this character is, O’Mara could be playing anyone from the Marvel Universe. However, something tells me that his character will indeed have a connection to Peggy Carter’s gone-too-soon series. Obviously, I have nothing concrete to go off of, but wouldn’t it be crazy if we learned more about Jack Thompson or Daniel Sousa because of this new guy? And ’S.H.I.E.L.D.’ has featured flashbacks before, so maybe this could be a way to keep ‘Agent Carter’ alive (since Netflix won’t be saving it).

What do you think about Jason O’Mara joining the cast of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? Do you think his character will be connected to the 1940s of Marvel Comics or the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
