‘The Flash’ movie has found a second cast member to join Ezra Miller, who stars as the titular hero. Kiersey Clemons has signed on to play Iris West. Clemons starred in the acclaimed indie film ‘Dope’ which perhaps not coincidentally, was directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who also happens to be helming ‘The Flash’. Clemons’ name emerged at the beginning of July as the frontrunner but now a deal has been officially inked.
Iris West is traditionally depicted as Barry Allen/The Flash’s love interest (and eventual wife). Like Lois Lane, she is a journalist by trade. In the comics, she is also the aunt of Wally West, who becomes Kid Flash. Candice Patton portrays Iris on ‘The Flash’ TV series on The CW.
Clemons’ Iris is expected to make her debut in ‘Justice League’ next year before taking on a larger role in ‘The Flash’. In addition to ‘Dope’, Clemons has been featured on the award-winning series ‘Transparent’ and ‘The New Girl’. She had a role in this summer’s ‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ and will next appear in the comedy ‘Little Bitches’ and a remake of the 1990 thriller ‘Flatliners’.
Production on ‘The Flash’ is likely to begin this year, once shooting on ‘Justice League’ wraps. ‘The Flash’ was slated to open on March 16, 2018, but Warner Brothers recently slotted their ‘Tomb Raider’ remake for the same date, so it looks as though ‘The Flash’ may shuffled off to another opening day. There were some concerns regarding this when Seth Grahame-Smith exited the director’s chair on this film and WB had to seek out a new helmer. Famuyiwa is expected to stick with Grahame-Smith’s last draft of the script, which was based on an earlier treatment by Chris Miller & Phil Lord.
Not much is known about ‘The Flash’ movie just yet but it is believed that Captain Cold will be featured as a villain.
