26 year-old ‘Hail Caesar!’ scene-stealer Alden Ehrenreich beat out just about every rising star in Hollywood, including Dave Franco, Miles Teller and Jack Reynor, to nab the coveted role of Han Solo in an upcoming anthology film/prequel, set to hit theaters in 2018.  Now comes word that the untitled film may just be part one of a stand-alone trilogy and that Ehrenreich is signed to reprise his role in at least two additional movies… should this one strike gold.

An insider expressed:

“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential.  Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.

“They feel that his character has the right potential to become a central figure in several movies.  They’re keeping things under wraps at the moment, but the deal is that he has signed for at least three movies.”

The first Han Solo movie will be directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller based on a script by Lawrence Kasdan, who penned ‘Empire Strikes Back’ and ‘Return of the Jedi’, with his son Jake.

Disney is testing the waters this winter with the release of the first anthology film, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’.  This may determine if moviegoers are invested enough in the ‘Star Wars’ mythology to turn out for movies that aren’t directly connected to the core trilogy of trilogies.

The untitled Han Solo movie is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.

Are you excited to see Ehrenreich try his hand at this iconic role?  Do you think he has what it takes to entertain for three movies?
