Screen Shot 2016-07-12 Star Trek Beyond

Paramount has released another clip from Justin Lin’s ‘Star Trek Beyond’ this time involving the first meeting between the Enterprise’s Chief Engineer Scotty (Simon Pegg) and a new alien ally Jaylah (Sofia Boutella). Unlike the trailers which were filled with action and explosions, this clip emphasizes on humor and interaction between the characters (much like the last one).

While the first two ‘Star Trek’ films in the Kelvin universe showed the crew before their 5 year mission that fans of the original series are familiar with, ‘Star Trek Beyond’ has them deep into their quest with an adversary named Krall (Idris Elba) who seems to be more sinister than Benedict Cumberbatch’s Khan (insert sigh of relief here). Krall manages to destroy the Enterprise causing the crew to abort, scattering them across an unknown planet. Here, Scotty is found by Jaylah.

The clip is entertaining and the banter is reminiscent of the TV series which many found was lacking in the reboot editions. Considering the script was co-written by Pegg who is a big fan of the franchise, this should not come to too much of a surprise.

Check it out below and let us know if the third time is the charm for this Kelvin Universe ‘Star Trek’ film:

“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

‘Star Trek Beyond’ stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella and will beam into theaters on July 22 in the US and UK.
