I’m still not quite sure why Sony is rebooting ‘Flatliners‘ but that isn’t stopping some big names from joining as the studio is currently in talks with Nina Dobrev (‘The Vampire Diaries’,’The Perks of Being a Wallflower’) to be part of the cast. If negotiations are a success, Dobrev will be joining both Ellen Page (‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’,’Inception’) and Diego Luna (‘Elysium’,’The Terminal’), two big names we know are already part of the film. This is a reboot which has been in the works for at least 4 years that is finally gaining momentum.
Dobrev is currently set to play Marlo who is described as “an overachiever who is the top of her class” which is probably going to describe most of the leads. The film will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev (‘Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’) based off of a screenplay by Ben Ripley.
While the 1990 release was well done and worth the watch I’m not sure if there is much that they’ll be touching upon to warrant a new take on the subject. We can always hope that they prove me wrong as I would hate to see the talent getting attached to the movie be wasted.
Are you looking forward to the ‘Flatliners’ reboot? Is this a film that does or doesn’t need a new iteration? Share your thoughts below!
Original Film Synopsis:
At University Hospital School of Medicine, a group of ambitious medical students are about to die… and live to tell about it. Embarking on a daring and arrogant experiment, the five aim to push through the confines of life and touch the face of death. Nelson Wright (Kiefer Sutherland), the manipulative, fame-seeking initiator of the project, has recruited Rachel Mannus (Julia Roberts), a self-made expert in the field of death; David Labraccio (Kevin Bacon), an idealistic yet pragmatic student suspended from med school; ladies’ man Joe Hurley (William Baldwin); and the brilliant yet self-absorbed Randy Steckle (Oliver Platt) to venture into a frontier that until now had been the exclusive province of religion and philosophy.
