We already know Hugh Jackman is hanging up his claws after the next ‘Wolverine’ movie, directed by James Mangold who helmed 2013’s well-received ‘The Wolverine’.  The new movie is due to be released in March of next year, but as far as we know, it hasn’t begun shooting and very little information has surfaced regarding what fans can look forward to.

The most persistent rumors have been that the movie’s plot line would borrow from the 2008 comic storyline ‘Old Man Logan’ written by Mark Millar. The biggest challenge is that the story is set in the future, but still well within the Marvel Universe, as Hawkeye, The Hulk, The Red Skull and other characters whose film rights belong to Marvel Studios play major roles.

But the story is rather lengthy, so certainly some story elements could be plucked from it and woven into a movie.  And it should also be pointed out that though the various ‘X-Men’ movies include elements from the comics, they are mostly original stories loosely inspired by the books.

It’s been stated that the most important part of the story is really the cross country road trip the character embarks on and that could still form the backbone of the film’s story.

And now executive producer Simon Kinberg has given a confirmation that seems to lend credence to the idea that this movie could borrow from ‘Old Man Logan’.

Kinberg simply stated:

“The ‘Wolverine’ movie takes place in the future.”

While that isn’t a confirmation that this movie will be based on ‘Old Man Logan’ but the rumblings around that have been incredibly strong for years now and it is considered one of the greatest ‘Wolverine’ comic book stories.  If Jackman wants to go out on top, this epic would be a great way to do so.

‘Wolverine 3’ is scheduled to be released on March 3, 2017.
