Despite concerns, ‘Iron Fist’ appears to be inching closer to fruition on Netflix.  The show, based on the Marvel Comics character otherwise known as Danny Rand, would be the fourth Marvel-based series on the streaming service.  Once ‘Iron Fist’ is complete, the lead character will team with the stars of the other three Marvel-based Netflix shows, ‘Daredevil‘, ‘Jessica Jones‘ and ‘Luke Cage‘ to form ‘The Defenders’ in a limited-run series, like a stripped down version of ‘The Avengers’.

Scott Reynolds, who wrote for ‘Jessica Jones’ has been tapped to write for ‘Iron Fist’.  Scott Buck serves as the showrunner for ‘Iron Fist’ and previously served the same role on the hit Showtime series ‘Dexter’, for which Reynolds also wrote and produced.  Reynolds has also worked on the series ‘The Following’, ‘E-Ring’ and ‘Skin’.

‘Iron Fist’ is described as:

Returning to New York City after being missing for years, Daniel Rand fights against the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

In the comics, Danny Rand is depicted as a blond haired, blue eyed Caucasian, but the latest rumors are that Marvel/Netflix may look to an Asian American actor to play the role, due to his mystical martial arts background.  Others have protested this, as it would reinforce stereotypes that Asians can only portray martial artists (or scientists).

‘Jessica Jones’ character Jeryn Hogarth (Carrie Anne Moss) is due to reprise her role on ‘Iron Fist’.

Netflix has reportedly ordered a series based on ‘The Punisher‘ starring Jon Bernthal, but that show is not expected to factor in their current plans for ‘The Defenders’, which will likely debut beforehand.
