We knew that Andre Tricoteux had to drop out of ‘Deadpool‘ as Colossus but have just found out that Stefan Kapicic (‘The Event’,’24’) was tapped to take his place and have new details about the actor as well as photos from him in mutant form. The studio needed someone big to pull it off and in Kapicic they were able to get the height, muscle, and voicework all in one! He was actually so last minute that the scenes he was in only finished filming in the middle of this month. That is pretty impressive when you keep in mind that the movie is coming out in under 2 months from now.

The biggest bonus? This Serbian actor was already a comic geek before the role was even potentially open to him! In fact, ‘Deadpool’ was one of his favorites:

“Yes! I am big comic book geek. I can’t live without them. Deadpool was always one of my favorite characters because of the way he handles all kinds of situations. His style and humor make him the perfect antihero. It’s great finding a comic book character that doesn’t care about following traditional comic book rules by breaking the fourth wall and being explicit about everything. This gives Deadpool the arrogance which you just have to love.”

While we’ve clearly seen that non-comic geeks can really pull off the superhero roles I truly believe that if someone already enjoys the medium that they will be able to bring that much more to the character and am happy to hear that Kapicic was a fan.

What was extra fun in his audition is that while it was steeped in mystery he knew pretty quickly as to what kind of a character he was up for:

“It was such a top secret project from the beginning that I didn’t even know what I was auditioning for. It was only after the second round of casting that some of the names were revealed and I figured it out immediately, so it was a much bigger deal for me because I am such a huge fan.”

What can we expect from the Colossus in the new ‘Deadpool’ movie? Actually from the sound of it, it sounds as if we’ll be getting the most authentic version to grace the big screen to date! Which honestly isn’t too hard but even so, I’m excited to see this one:

“Tim Miller’s idea of Colossus was to be bigger and stronger than everyone else, so for the motion capture they needed an extremely tall man. I’m 6-foot-4, but he wanted Colossus to be over 7 feet, so they used a stunt double to recreate his height, and he did very good job there. Tim also wanted Colossus to sound as close as possible to the comic book character’s background, so he had me to come in, since my voice was what he envisioned for Colossus, who has an authentic Russian accent. My character’s voice gives him the past history as Piotr Rasputin once you hear him speak. This made him the most authentic to the original idea of the comic book character.”

Back to being a fan, awhile back Kapicic had tweeted “#dreamscometrue” and this truly is a dream come true. Much like many of us, I suspect he started off early on as a comic book fan.

“Yes, my grandfather bought me my first Marvel comic book when I was 6 years old, and since then, it has been an ongoing love. It was an X-Men comic book. Becoming a part of the Marvel Universe was my childhood dream. Like most kids growing up, I read a lot of comic books and acted out some of the characters with friends. Since I can remember, I wanted to be a superhero, so it’s not just a movie for me or just another role. It’s a fulfillment of my dreams on so many levels.”

Every aspect I read about this film has me more and more excited about what they’re doing with Deadpool. If Kapicic is even half the Colossus we’re getting hints at I hope he’ll have a long future in Fox’s take on the Marvel Mutant Universe.
