Runaways

As part of Hulu’s presentation at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, it was announced that all ten episodes of ‘Runaways’ Season 3 will be released to binge on Friday, December 13.

“Season 3 finds the Runaways frantically searching for their captured friends Chase, Gert, and Karolina, while contending with an unstoppable enemy who has targeted Leslie — or more accurately, the child she’s carrying. Nico eventually draws the gang into a dark realm ruled by the sorceress Morgan le Fay, to be played by Elizabeth Hurley (The Royals).”

Earlier this year, co-showrunners and executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage stated:

“We are so excited to tell more Runaways stories and are so grateful to Marvel, Hulu, our amazing cast and crew and of course our passionate audience.  Season 3 will be a magical time on Runaways, as we deepen our connection to the Marvel universe. We are honored to continue to play in the sandbox created by Brian K. Vaughn and Adrian Alphona.”

We now know that their use of the word “magical” was quite literal, as Morgan le Fay, the ancient sorceress from Arthurian legend (and Marvel’s comics) will be introduced.  As she is not a Runaways villain in the comics, it’s very likely that her presence will be used to bring the show deeper into the supernatural side of Marvel, because Hulu has new live-action shows ‘Ghost Rider’ and ‘Helstrom’ in the works.

Netflix carried five Marvel-based series— ‘Daredevil’, ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Luke Cage’, ‘Iron Fist’ and ‘The Punisher’– focused on street-level vigilantes.  It is believed that Hulu wants to construct a similar mini-shared universe between their Marvel live-action shows, with an emphasis on the paranormal.

Hulu is also rolling out four adult animated series based on Marvel properties– ‘Howard the Duck’, ‘M.O.D.O.K.’, ‘Hit-Monkey’, and the ‘Tigra & Dazzler Show’.  Marvel’s parent company, Disney now owns Hulu, so that explains the influx of new Marvel properties.

Are you a fan of ‘Runaways’?  Are you excited about the “magical” third season?
