We just reported two bits of DC TV news: that ‘Supergirl’ may cross over with ‘The Flash’ during May sweeps; and Matt Ryan’s John Constantine may return to The CW for ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ Season Two.  Now we have updates, one encouraging, the other not so much.

First, the crossover between ‘Supergirl’ and ‘The Flash’ may not just be a fun romp.  It may be required!  CBS ordered ‘Supergirl’ straight to series, but only committed to 13 episodes with the option of a back nine, meaning if the show was a big enough hit, there would be nine additional episodes that would bring the first season’s total to 22.  Now the latest word is that in order for CBS to order these nine additional episodes, an appearance by The Flash is necessary.

There aren’t many details, but apparently should these nine episodes come to fruition, they will detail the arrival of 100,000 Kryptonians on Earth after they are freed from the bottle city of Kandor, which in the comics was a Kryptonian city shrunk by Brainiac before the planet’s destruction.  No word on exactly what role The Flash would play in all of this, but for the first season of ‘Supergirl’ that sounds like a fairly ambitious story… and one that should probably heavily involve Superman, right?

Well, these are just rumors until an announcement is officially made, so just keep that in mind.

The second bit of news was that Matt Ryan’s Constantine had been such a hit on ‘Arrow’ that The CW was keen to bring him back and not just for a one-off guest stint, but as part of a second season of ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ which would feature a different line up of DC heroes with a new mission.

Apparently, that report was premature.  Now it’s being reported that ‘Legends’ is a very expensive show and that The CW doesn’t plan to revisit the concept.  Instead they are looking to find another show based on the DC library to replace it in 2017.

That doesn’t rule out Ryan returning as Constantine.  Maybe this new show will be supernatural in nature.

Are you disappointed that a ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ sequel has already been nixed?  What do you think about ‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ crossing over?  What future would you like to see for Constantine in The CW’s Flarrowverse?
