Well, well, well.  Guess what movie started shooting this past week without anyone realizing– ‘Wonder Woman’!  With ‘Batman V Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad‘ in the can, Warner Bros.’ next DC super hero epic is already under way.  But now comes the first glimpse of what to expect, directly from one of the stars Saïd Taghmaoui, who posted two photos on Instagram.

While there are no spoilers to be gleaned from these, they do confirm a couple of rumors.

First, Taghmaoui posted a picture of himself and Chris Pine in costume.  Pine, is playing Steve Trevor, Wonder Woman’s love interest.  The image intriguingly shows the actors in what appears to be period costumes.  Gaze for yourself below:

Taghmaoui and Pine are clearly in period attire, confirming that part of the movie takes place in the past, most likely World War I, which has long been rumored.  What is startling, though is that I assumed that Trevor would only be used in the present.  This changes things up.  Will Wonder Woman and Steve have a Steve Rogers/Peggy Carter-type relationship, where she remains immortally young while he ages?  Also, Peggy was active in World War II not I, so even though she is quite aged in modern depictions, well… at least she’s still alive.  Having a WWI survivor still alive in the present is much more of a stretch.

The one thing that throws me is his camouflage quilted jacket, which looks pretty modern.  Is this a contemporary Steve Trevor that has traveled back in time?  We know so little about this movie so far, anything is possible.

BUT, it’s always seemed a bit odd that they were going with WWI as a setting in the first place, considering that the comic book Wonder Woman debuted shortly after the US entered WWII, which was also the time setting of the first season of the 70s TV show.  Maybe the earlier reports were inaccurate and WWII is the real setting!

Of lesser importance, if you spy the sign printed on the trailer behind the actors, you see the working title ‘Nightingale’ which was previously announced.  I don’t understand why a pseudonym is needed, but there it is.

As for Taghmaoui, he must be playing a significant role and isn’t just an extra as evidenced by his second photo:

Whatever role he is playing, Taghmaoui got his own chair next to those of co-stars Pine and ‘Wonder Woman’ herself, Gal Gadot.

You may recognize the French actor from his role as Caesar on ‘Lost’ or as Guillermo Ortiz on ‘Touch’.  He has also had small roles including Breaker in ‘GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ as well as bit parts in ‘American Hustle’ and ‘Conan The Barbarian’.  The actor, of Moroccan descent, has used his versatility (and the fact that Americans can’t tell brown people apart) to play characters of various ethnicities.

No word whatsoever on who he’s playing in ‘Wonder Woman’.  Based strictly on superficial traits, he looks a bit like telepathic villain Doctor Psycho:

But Doctor Psycho is a little person.  (In modern comics, many artists draw him to look exactly like Peter Dinklage.)  Since Taghmaoui is an average-size person, that’s probably not the right guess, unless some sort of trickery is in effect or the character has been changed.  It’s more likely he’s playing a character created for the movie.

So there you have a first tease of ‘Wonder Woman’.  More as filming continues!

‘Wonder Woman’ is scheduled for release on June 23, 2017 and will be directed by Patty Jenkins.

What do you think so far?  What do you make of Pine’s period/modern garments?
