In less than one week, the Scarlet Speedster returns to The CW as ‘The Flash’ kicks off its second season. After spinning out of ‘Arrow’ and quickly becoming a favorite among fans last year, Grant Gustin’s Barry Allen races back to the small screen on October 6th at 8:00pm. But before we head back to Central City, there’s still a ton more news and promotional material coming out of this corner of the DC Universe.

First, as if the season premiere isn’t circled on your calendar already, a new behind the scenes TV spot does a great job of reminding the world that the first episode of season two debuts next week. Plus, there’s a glimpse at Franz Drameh as Jay Jackson AKA the new Firestorm. You can check it below, followed by the official synopsis for ‘The Man Who Saved Central City’:

Picking up months after the Singularity attacked Central City, Barry is still struggling to forgive himself for Eddie’s death.  Concerned about putting his friends in danger, Barry has pushed everyone away and has chosen to protect the city on his own.  When a meta-human named Atom Smasher attacks the city, Iris tells Barry that he needs to let his friends help him protect the citizens of Central City. Meanwhile, Cisco helps Joe with his Meta Task Force.

Next, Variety reports that the mother of Candice Patton’s Iris West has been cast for this season. While there are currently no details regarding when she’ll appear or even what her name is, ‘Melrose Place’ star Vanessa Williams will play Mrs. Joe West. The actress will join fellow ‘Candyman’ co-star Tony Todd, who will voice new villain Zoom. And whenever she does pop up in the series, it’ll be interesting to finally learn what happened to Iris’ mother since she was barely acknowledged and was nowhere to be seen in flashbacks involving young Iris and Barry.

Speaking of Zoom, the latest sinister speedster can be seen in a new trailer that offer our first look at the character. It’s definitely one of those blink or you’ll miss it moments, but you can also get a glimpse at the Jay Garrick, the hero of Zoom’s alternate universe that will become a mentor to Barry and an ally in bringing down the new threats caused by the Singularity. You can see that here courtesy of ComicBook.com:

Finally, though we saw a bit of Garrick in that last trailer, actor Teddy Sears shared the first official image of the Crimson Comet fully suited up on his Instagram account. Now, we can get a much better look at that helmet and his signature red jacket with a familiar lightning bolt on it:

See you in a week #Flash
