It is a pretty well known fact that the ‘Star Wars’ fandom isn’t very fond of the prequel trilogy. Sure, a few things may stand out as enjoyable or memorable here and there, but fans for the most part view George Lucas’ later films from a galaxy far, far away were a misguided endeavor. In fact, this distaste was so strong that J.J. Abrams admitted that he wanted to kill off Jar Jar Binks in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’ But like it or not, Episodes I, II, and III actually happened and are canon. And if the latest reports are true, then one of the most polarizing figures from those movies (that wasn’t a Gungan) may be popping up once again.

Aside from a number of cast members presumably being carried over from ‘The Force Awakens,’ we already know that Benicio Del Toro will be appearing in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII.’ But now it seems like someone from the prequels will be joining the acclaimed actor. According to Making Star Wars, Hayden Christensen will be involved in the next chapter of the ‘Star Wars’ saga, which will be directed by ‘Looper’ filmmaker Rian Johnson. The site says that a team will soon head from the U.K. to the U.S. to start training the actor for an appearance of some sort.

Considering that a ghost probably wouldn’t be getting very physical and therefore wouldn’t need much training (let alone a team coming across the pond to do the training), there’s a possibility that Christensen could be featured in a flashback or a dream sequence. There are also some rumblings that Darth Vader may be resurrected in the new trilogy, but I find that to be the least likely scenario. If I were to put money on any theory, I’d guess that the actor would simply be the guy in the Sith suit when the character makes a cameo in ‘Star Wars: Rogue One.’ But if we’re not even seeing his face, then what’s the point of even bringing him in? With so many uncertain variables right now, it’s just really hard to really make a good guess.

Would you like to see Hayden Christensen reprise his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’? What do you think he would be doing in the film if they did indeed bring him back? Go ahead and share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
