One of the clear standouts in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road‘ was Charlize Theron as Furiosa and many have wondered if she might be returning for the follow up film. We’ve known for awhile that George Miller had an idea to start a new trilogy with ‘Fury Road’ but there was no word as to what the proposed sequel titled ‘The Wasteland’ might be about. With Tom Hardy being signed on for three sequels to ‘Fury Road’ one would hope that other cast members may also be involved.

Well, according to a recent interview Theron was asked if there had been any developments on the film or if she might be involved. Her answer?

“What’s Wasteland? This is all news to me. I have not heard anything like that.”

There had been no early hints that Theron had a multi-picture contract for the film so either she isn’t going to be at all involved, hasn’t been contacted yet, or is trying to keep her return a secret. With Miller only recently having completed the screenplay it would make sense to not make too many waves of her involvement quite yet.

On the one hand it makes total sense to include her as she is more of the protagonist of ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ than Max himself was. A strong character that stole the scenes she was in with the world at her fingertips. Of course, on the flip side if you look over the history of Mad Max he tends to be the central character to continue between the films which each tell a unique tale set in the world that he now lives in. Miller isn’t known for bringing back characters no matter how much you’d like to see them have more screen time.

Do you think we’ll see Theron return for ‘Mad Max: The Wasteland’? Are you looking forward to a movie that brings Furiosa back or do you want another stand alone chapter? Share your thoughts below!
