We’ve just learned that Constance Zimmer (‘House of Cards’,’The Newsroom’) has joined the upcoming season of Marvel’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘ and her role in it will be to run a government agency that is tracking Inhumans. The studio of course hasn’t revealed the name of the agency yet or if we’ll see them working with or against Agent Coulson’s team. I highly suspect that at the very least they will begin at odds with one another.

Zimmer’s character is the head of this “mysterious new group” and as a government agency, chances are they will either be leading into the ‘Captain America: Civil War’ conflict or be an agency from the comics. Clark Gregg already pointed out that S.H.I.E.L.D. was a large part of the Civil War in the comics so it would only make sense for early hints of it to kick off in the series.

When talking about the casting Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb says that:

“When casting this role, we needed someone that could go toe-to-toe with Coulson. Constance brings a level of wit and spark to the role we could have only dreamed of, and we’re beyond excited to add her to our already stellar cast going into the new season.”

Zimmer does have a commanding presence on screen and I can easily see how she’ll be an acting match for Coulson. Now we just have to wonder what organization she is going to be in charge of, with the cosmic universe and human technology not quite yet up to snuff to create S.W.O.R.D.

I’m almost curious as to if this could be the beginning of the Superhuman Restraint Unit which was created to track down and detain super heroes during the events of the comic take on the Civil War. If this proves to be true we will most likely see them at odds with the Secret Warriors.

Are you looking forward to check out the next season of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’? What agency do you think Zimmer’s character will be running? Share your thoughts below True Believers!
