Fans may have noticed something different about last Thursday’s episode of ‘Arrow’. During the show’s opening sequence, we heard the familiar candor of Oliver Queen’s voice. However, he had something different to say than his usual “I am the Green Arrow” and the monologue went a little something like this instead:

“My name is Oliver Queen. After five years in hell, I returned home with only one goal – to save my city. But I couldn’t honor that commitment and honor the promise I made to the mother of my son. So I asked the best man I know to help. His name is John Diggle and he is the Green Arrow.”

Obviously, this reflects the new normal in Star City where Oliver is trying to be a better mayor and father while John steps into the green hood to be the leader of Team Arrow. But just how long will this last? We’ve seen the mantle get passed around in the past, but it was never for very long. That’s why when actor David Ramsey spoke to Entertainment Weekly and revealed that he isn’t getting too comfortable as the Emerald Archer:

“No. No, it’s Green Arrow. Stephen Amell is Green Arrow. It’s not going to last. Of course not, but I think it’s very interesting and it’s an interesting twist on how it fits into the ultimate theme of the season, I think it’s very clever. I think it’s an interesting detour.”

Now the question remains of when exactly Ollie will transition back into his heroic alter ego. Previously released promotional art for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover titled ‘Crisis on Earth-X’ featured Queen under the green hood, so the switch will likely happen before the crossover’s November 27th start date. But what is it that could bring him out of retirement? A number of factor’s like the way John is dealing with his condition or William’s safety could persuade him to return as early as next week’s episode. The possibilities are pretty endless at this point, so feel free to speculate about Oliver’s comeback as the Green Arrow in the comments below.

‘Arrow’ starring Stephen Amell, Katie Cassidy, David Ramsey, Paul Blackthorne, Emily Bett Rickards, Echo Kellum, Rick Gonzalez, and Juliana Harkavy airs on Thursdays at 9:00pm EST on The CW.
