News of a spin-off ‘Ghostbusters‘ movie happened long before many details of Paul Feig‘s came out though thanks to Drew Pearce (‘Iron Man 3‘,’Sherlock Holmes 3’) we have a slew of new details to share with you. While Producer Reid Carolin has said that a spinoff which may feature Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt is on hold, it seems that screenwriter Pearce has been moving forward quite steadily and has even completed his big picture ideas for the film.

It all started while sitting down for an interview on his work for the upcoming ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation.’ Pearce provided a little nugget about ‘Ghostbusters’ which looks to have the Russo brothers and Ivan Reitman in on it:

“I’ve finished my work on that in the last couple weeks. Obviously it’s top secret, but there’s a gigantic bold idea that I came up with, and the Russo brothers — who did ’Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ and are doing ’Civil War’ at the moment — and Ivan Reitman, who did the original movie, are going to take that and run with it. Obviously I cannot tell you what it is, but hopefully in one year’s time you’ll know!”

Now I know that it sounds like that could mean a full script is done but it is actually more of an outline or guide. Also it sounds as if the original all-male plan that they had in place has gone to the wayside.

We’re trying to chill our boots as the film has not yet been greenlit by the studio. Still, its interesting to see what direction the franchise might be taking. Especially since the Pratt and Tatum casting might not work out with everything on Pratt’s plate at the moment. Even so, the script appears to be written with them in mind:

“That’s definitely the cast we’ve been thinking about as we approach the project. Whether that happens or not is very much above my pay grade. It’s just my job to give them something exciting that maybe they’ll do.”

Are you interested in a ‘Ghostbusters’ spinoff from the above actors? Do you think they should even be trying to plot out a franchise or wait and see how the first film pans out? Share your thoughts below!
