Slowly but surely, things are coming together for Scott Derrickson’s ‘Doctor Strange’. After Benedict Cumberbatch was cast as the Sorcerer Supreme back in December, other big names have finally started to join the cast over the last few months. For starters, it was announced that Tilda Swinton would provide a new twist on the Ancient One, the mystical Tibetan mentor of Stephen Strange, while Chiwetel Ejiofor was cast as Strange’s arch-nemesis Baron Mordo. But now, it appears that yet another casting call has been filled and the production might need to prepare pink for Wednesday shoots.

According to sources at Heroic Hollywood, Rachel McAdams has allegedly been offered the female lead in ‘Doctor Strange.’ It’s currently unknown who the actress known for her roles in ‘The Notebook’, ‘Mean Girls’, and the latest season of ‘True Detective’ would be playing, but many theorize that she could be up for the part of Clea, the Sorceress Supreme of the Dark Dimension and Strange’s one time girlfriend/wife. Another possibility is Morgana Blessing, a friend turned love interest that later became the lover of Stephen’s brother Baron Blood. There is also the chance that Jon Sphaits’ script introduces an amalgam similar to Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple from ‘Daredevil’ that combines two characters into one new one.

Regardless of who the female lead turns out to be, we’re still awaiting the official announcement from Marvel Studios about this addition to the cast. Considering that the film branch of the House of Ideas decided to sit out this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the news probably won’t come from Hall H (unless Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada pulls out some major surprises at his annual Cup O’ Joe panel). Although, shooting is set to commence in London this Fall, so if McAdams did land the job, then we’re sure to find out some time soon.
