Lately, there has been a lot of sequel talk going around the internet concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Once ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ wraps up the current slate of projects, we know for sure that ‘Ant-Man’ will kick off Phase Three. We also know that Disney has three slots reserved for upcoming Marvel projects, but we don’t know what will occupy them for certain. Reports have gone around concerning sequels to ‘Thor: The Dark World’, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, as well as speculation about original films featuring Doctor Strange, the Inhumans, Black Panther, and Black Widow. There have even been rumors going past that group of movies saying that the New Avengers will pop up in Phase Four. Of course, no one knows for sure which of those will make the final cut for Phase Three, but a new report has recently emerged that could show us what the House of Ideas is thinking when it comes to their film department.

Late last week, a source from Schmoes Know shared some insider info that may or may not confirm what is and isn’t going to be included in Marvel’s Phase Three. If the report is to be believed, then it starts by debunking a few of the sequel rumors:

“I can confirm that as of the end of January, Marvel had no plans to make a ‘Guardians 2’. Marvel was planning on Guardians being a one and done. So unless they have done a complete 180 in the last couple weeks, I very much doubt there will be a ‘Guardians 2’. They only have so many films they can do each year and they don’t want them all to be trilogies to where they’re just dealing with the same handful of characters for the next 5-10 years.”

That makes a lot of sense and we’ll get a feel for how audiences react to Star-Lord and the gang once the first trailer comes out this week. But now that the Guardians are out, who’s in? Well, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise if you’ve been following what Kevin Feige has been saying for a while:

“The movies that will be part of Phase III for absolute certain are: ‘Ant-Man’, ‘Captain America 3’, ‘Thor 3’, ‘The Avengers 3’, and ‘Dr. Strange’. Feige has pretty much confirmed Dr. Strange for some time now. They really wanted it to be a part of Phase 2 at one point, but like ‘Ant-Man’ that just didn’t happen. That’s probably the one that Feige is personally rooting for the most and as a result it is the solo film that is the highest priority other than the sequels.”

As for the remaining rumored projects, the source mentioned that the Wakandan king and the Attilan royal family are on the studios’ radar before confirming that those five films are definitely slated to be the next chapter of the MCU:

“There has been talk about ‘Black Panther’ and lots of talk about ‘The Inhumans’, they’re in the pipeline but are pretty much in the same boat that ‘Dr. Strange’ and ‘Ant-Man’ were in two years ago, where they want them to happen, and they will most likely both happen, but it’s just a question of how soon. However, those five films (Ant-Man, Cap 3, Thor 3, Dr. Strange & Avengers 3) are sure things and I can guarantee you they will all be announced at Comic Con if not sooner.”

Besides Agent Romanoff, another glaring omission is the Incredible Hulk. No mention of Dr. Bruce Banner at all despite his popularity stemming from his most recent feature length outing courtesy of Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo. As much as I’d love to see Black Bolt and Medusa mix it up with the various alien races in the universe, I feel like the Jade Giant should have some priority over the more obscure groups of heroes.

What do you think about the rumored slate of Marvel movies for 2015 and beyond? Are you pleased or disappointed by the speculated films? Are there any heroes like the Hulk or Black Widow that you wish would hit the big screen in their own movie before any of these choices? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
