Though he announced his retirement from the role earlier this year, Hugh Jackman is still gearing up to slip the claws on a few more times before he completely leaves Wolverine behind. He has been confirmed to reprise his iconic X-Men character for the sequel to ‘The Wolverine’, but rumors state that he’ll be making cameo appearances in ‘Deadpool’ and ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Now, one of those two projects seems to have been confirmed by a very unlikely source.

Previously, though ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ may have made it obvious that he would be back, it was never explicitly stated that Jackman would be returning for Bryan Singer’s upcoming Marvel mutant movie for Fox. But over the weekend, a Brooklyn-based leather goods company called Kika NY posted a work in progress picture on their Instagram account of a backpack that was meant for the Australian actor as a present to commemorate his time on the X-Men franchise. Sounds like a pretty harmless post, right? Well, it would have been if it weren’t for the reveal that Jackman is currently filming with Singer and company in Canada. The picture has since been deleted from Kika NY’s account, but Heroic Hollywood provided the text of the original post:

“We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X MEN movie in Montreal. We started sketching – The bag will be ready next week- we will keep you posted!”

Now that the cat (or should I say Wolverine) is out of the bag, I wonder if the production is upset with the custom leather goods company. No major details like whether Logan will have adamantium claws or what part he plays in the plot have been revealed because of the post, but I can’t imagine that Fox is happy with the premature announcement that Jackman is involved in ‘Apocalypse.’ Plus, there goes the surprise of an awesome backpack!

Are you surprised that Hugh Jackman will be in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’? How do you think he’ll be involved in the story? Might he be one of the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse or is this just a small cameo? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Sophie Turner, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Ben Hardy, Lana Condor, and Oscar Isaac opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
