Fans of the amazing looking ‘Silent Hillsteaser that Konami put out last year are going to be crushed as the game has officially been cancelled.

Worry actually began for many of us last March when it was announced that the game’s director, Hideo Kojima, was leaving the studio after he completed his work on ‘Metal Gear Solid 5.’ This last weekend Guillermo del Toro (‘Pacific Rim‘,’The Strain’) unofficially said that his work on the project “is not gonna happen.” Still, the studio hadn’t yet put a nail in the coffin until this morning.

The details are very light but we found out that while another entree in the ‘Silent Hill’ universe will most likely happen, it sadly won’t be this one. I suppose the thought of playing as Norman Reedus in a game designed by the creative geniuses of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro just had to be too good to be true.

From the press release:

Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

While it is unclear if it was Kojima leaving the studio or del Toro’s schedule causing issues, it does seem that they have hope that one if not both of the two might be back in some capacity moving forward. It doesn’t sound like Reedus would be involved though.

For the first time in years it seemed we finally had the creative drive to deliver a high quality game set in the ‘Silent Hill’ universe and it saddens me that we won’t have another oppotunity to see a game set here anytime soon.
