If things weren’t crowded enough with comic themed movies from Marvel and DC, it now looks as if Valiant and Sony will be giving us both ‘Bloodshot’ and ‘Harbinger’ films in the near future! It seems Sony Pictures doesn’t want to solely bank on their Spider-Man/Marvel Cinematic collaboration and are branching out to work with Valiant Entertainment on making a Valiant Cinematic Universe. The two studios currently have a five picture deal setup that will introduce to the universe. If any of this sounds familiar that is because they originally started talking about this three years ago with ‘Bloodshot.’

Speaking of ‘Bloodshot,’ it will be the first film that will launch in 2017 and has directors David Leitch and Chad Stahelski (‘John Wick’) set to take on the project with Jeff Wadlow (‘Cry Wolf’,’Kick-Ass 2‘) and Eric Heisserer (‘The Thing’,’Bird Box’) on the script. Matthew Vaughn and Jason Kothari are also on board to produce. ‘Bloodshot’ is about “a soldier brought back from the dead by a secret government agency, turned into an unstoppable killing machine with no memory powered by nanotechnology.”

Basically think ‘Spawn’ without the magic.

According to Sony Entertainment Motion Picture Group President Doug Belgrad:

“Valiant is one of the most successful publishers in the history of comics, and Neal is one of the best action producers in the business today. This is a formidable partnership that will bring two incredibly commercial franchises with global appeal together on the big screen. The long-term plan that begins with BLOODSHOT will be a considerable priority for Sony in the months and years to come.”

The second movie in the pipeline is ‘Harbinger’ and has Heisserer as the solo writer. At this time, no directors have been announced but Neil H. Moritz and Andrea Giannetti (‘Fast and Furious’) will be producing the film. ‘Harbingers’ follows a ” group of superpowered beings on the run from the Harbinger Foundation, an organization run by a mysterious philanthropist Toyo Harada.”

Word has it that sequels to both films will be released before a crossover feature titled ‘Harbinger Wars’ is released which will be inspired by the 2013 crossover comic arc of the same name.
