Director Roland Emmerich announced via Twitter that Vivica A. Fox will reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow in the long awaited sequel ‘Independence Day 2.’  In the original movie, Jasmine was the single mother/exotic dancer who later became the wife of Will Smith’s Captain Steve Hiller. This time around Smith will not be returning for the new movie but a grown up version of her son will.  Jessie Usher will play her son Dylan, a part played in the first movie by Ross Bagley.  Also returning is Jeff Goldblum who plays scientist David Levinson.  It is not yet confirmed, but it is rumored that Bill Pullman will reprise his role as President Thomas J. Whitmore.

Here is Emmerich’s tweet:

Joining Usher as new additions are Liam Hemsworth, who is rumored to be playing Pullman’s character’s son-in-law and Charlotte Gainsbourg (I would assume as Hemsworth’s love interest).

The new movie arrives 10 years after the original, which was a surprise smash, raking in $817.4 million and launching Will Smith’s blockbuster film career.  Fox’s career was also elevated with her most notable role as the assassin Vernita Green in ‘Kill Bill.’

‘Independence Day 2’ is expected to begin production in May, with a script by James Vanderbilt and Carter Blanchard, based on a treatment by Emmerich himself and Dean Devlin.

Are you excited to see aliens return and blow s–t up again?  (Because admit it, that’s why you loved the first one.)
