Whether you were a child of the 80s or you were raised in the 90s, the team over at Gentle Giant has got some choice cut slice of prime nostalgia coming your way! Over the last few years, Gentle Giant has been releasing their ‘Jumbo Sized Retro’ figures based on the classic series of our youths. They started strong with the original Kenner ‘Star Wars’ figure molds, releasing massive jumbo sized versions of these classic figures, and have since announced plans to produce figures based on the original G.I. Joe figures and even the Mavel ‘Secret Wars’ figures! Now they’re moving in to the next big ‘jumbo sized’ thing: The classic toys of the DC Universe!
Whether you were a Marvel or a DC fan growing up, it’s hard to argue that two of the best superhero toylines of the 1980s were Marvel’s ‘Secret Wars’ and DC’s ‘Super Powers’ lines. While we already know we’re getting the ‘Secret Wars’ figures in the epic Jumbo Size scale, Gentle Giant has just announced at Toy Fair 2015 that they will be producing Jumbo Sized versions of the iconic DC ’Superpowers Collection’ figures! So far the only figures officially announced are Superman and Wonder Woman, but in the backing of the promotional image they’ve posted you can clearly see Batman, Robin, The Flash, and The Joker! These figures won’t be hitting shelves until January of 2016, so you’ve got plenty of time to figure out how you’re going to afford these guys! The release from Gentle Giant is Below:
In 1984, Kenner began to release the next on their extremely popular action figure lines, the DC Super Powers Collection! This line included heroes such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and many, many more.
Gentle Giant is proud to announce the launch of this stunning line of retro figures that have been given the Jumbo Figure treatment. Each figure is developed using state of the art 3D technology. Gentle Giant has taken the original DC Super Powers figures and created a highly accurate digital model with the use of 3D scanners. These digital models are then scaled to 12 inches tall, and then printed using top of the line 3D Systems printers. These pieces are then used in manufacturing to produce extremely accurate, scaled replicas.
The DC Super Powers Collection Jumbo Figures from Gentle Giant will be made from high quality vinyl, and some ABS plastic parts. Many of the figures will also include fabric capes and accessories. Finally, these incredible figures will feature retro art packaging, and come in a protective re-sealable blister pack.
As if it weren’t enough to be bringing such an iconic line to Jumbo Sized life, Gentle Giant has one more trick up their sleeve with the announcement of their Jumbo Sized ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ line! This legendary animated series doesn’t seem to be losing any steam lately as it’s made a major comeback over the last year or so with several companies recently making new products based around it! What’s even more astounding is that the show has been off the air since 1998 and we are STILL getting new products based on it! This new Jumbo Sized ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ line is also set to hit shelves in January of 2016 and will premiere with Batman and Robin, with no other characters currently confirmed or announced. In the fall of 1992, a new animated series debuted from Warner Bros. Animation on weekday afternoons. It would go on to leave a lasting impact on one of DC’s most enduring franchises.
Batman: The Animated Series took place in a Gotham very much influenced by the Tim Burton films, but added its own unique blend of film noir and “dark deco” elements. Characters in this world were developed with a layered complexity rarely seen in animated television at the time. Audiences and critics quickly embraced the series during its 85 episode run.
Gentle Giant Ltd. celebrates this much loved television show with the launch of this Jumbo line, Batman: The Animated Series figures. Based on digital scans of the original 1993 Kenner 5” action figures, this Jumbo line stands 12” tall in 1/6 scale.
