Upcoming survival horror game ‘The Evil Within‘ just got a brand new trailer for Japan’s Tokyo Game Show 2014.

Touted as a “return to form” for famed game developer and original ‘Resident Evil’ creator Shinji Mikami, ‘The Evil Within’ is a survival horror game that puts players in the shoes of Detective Sebastian Castellanos as he investigates the scene of a mass murder. However, after his fellow officers are slaughtered by a mysterious force upon arrival to the scene, Castellanos is left beaten and unconscious only to wake up in a deranged world filled with hideous creatures and monstrosities.

The game’s new trailer is brief but showcases a little bit of its aesthetics as well as small flashes of its gameplay and environments. However, for those looking for more content, Publisher Bethesda Softworks had also previously unveiled a video showcasing 60 minutes of gameplay from a later chapter of the game last month.

‘The Evil Within’s’ gameplay mostly revolves around exploration and puzzle solving, the occasional gunplay, stealth and the survival horror standard of resource conversation. Yet, it is also a dynamic game that shifts and changes in its gameplay through repeated playthroughs. For example, enemy positions do not remain the same when the player begins a new game.

From the looks of it, ‘The Evil Within’ is stacking up to be a potentially promising title that could bring audiences back to the more core elements of survival horror, a genre that has become rather niche to the triple A gaming scene. After a number of recent entries from franchises like ‘Resident Evil,’ ‘Dead Space’ and ‘Silent Hill’ not meeting the standards of hard core survival horror fans and critics, ‘The Evil Within’ may prove to shine a glimmer of hope into the eyes of gamers who have lost faith in iconic horror franchises.

‘The Evil Within’ will be available for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC on October 14.
