With Robert Downey Jr. at some point parting ways with the Marvel Money Machine, it would seem that he may want another epic role to fill and being part of Michael Fassbender’s ‘Assassin’s Creed‘ might just be that role! At this time there is no confirmation from the actor or studio but there is a rumor that Downey Jr. is now attached to this video game franchise blockbuster that is being adapted for the big screen.
Early reports place Robert Downey Jr. in the shoes of Leonardo da Vinci for the adaptation which has Michael Fassbender starring in the lead as Desmond Miles. This take is a bit different from the games which always seems to be the case but does lend itself quite well to the established world. We’ll be seeing Desmond Miles who is an ordinary bartender be “captured by a large corporation and is forced into a machine, named ‘The Animus,’ allowing him to relive the memories of his ancestors … to retrieve powerful and dangerous artifacts.”
The movie itself is something I’m looking forward to, but it would appear that at this time the source of the original rumor has been taken down. Did it get shot down or is the studio trying to hush things up before they can officially announce the casting? It’s always hard to tell but I’m sure we’ll be hearing more soon if this does prove true.
While I love the idea of an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ movie, so many video game films have just ended up being bad over time. It’s hard to capture the spirit of them, though this film at least has plenty of content to mine for a solid plot.
Would you like to see Downey show up in ‘Assassin’s Creed’ in a cameo or smaller role or should he be sticking with the leads that we all enjoy him being in?
