When Bryan Singer made his return to Fox’s Marvel mutant franchise with ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, he brought a number of iconic characters back into the picture with him. We saw the likes of Iceman, Rogue, Colossus, Storm, Shadowcat, and more make comebacks in the latest chapter of the series, but we also saw newcomers like Warpath, Bishop, and the scene-stealing Quicksilver. As the filmmaker moves on to ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’, it’s hard to tell who among the massive cast will reprise their roles for the sequel. However, one actress reveals that there’s a good chance that we’ll see her as part of the X-Men roster for the foreseeable future.

While speaking with The Star, actress Fan Bingbing shared that she will be returning to play Blink, the teleporter from the future timeline, in the next four ‘X-Men’ movies. Though she played a relatively minor role in ‘Days of Future Past,’ the events of that film saw the ‘Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’ star survive to fight another day (after dying a few times), so the door is open for her character to make an appearance if the script calls for it. Through her translator, here’s what she had to say about her future with the franchise and how proud she is to step into the role:

“I am contracted to appear in the next four X-Men films and it’s going to be really amazing. In 14 years since the X-Men films started, this is the first time an Asian mutant is in the film. So, it’s going to be really interesting. In the comics, Blink is a Caucasian girl, so I was curious why Bryan wanted an Asian to play the role. He said that it’s time for Blink to make an appearance and, for her debut she has to be simply marvelous. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse.”

Though I’m excited about seeing diversity in superhero movies these days, technically she was wrong about being the first Asian mutant. Kelly Hu’s Lady Deathstrike comes to mind immediately, but there was also Psylocke, Jubilee (in a brief cameo), Quill, and Yukio. However, Bingbing is the first Asian to appear on an X-Men team, so it still counts. Regardless on whether she was the first or not, it will be interesting to see how Blink fits into the plans for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ and beyond.

What do you think about Fan Bingbing supposedly returning for the next four X-Men films? Do you have any ideas about what part she could play in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
