Some pretty awesome concept art from an undeveloped 2001 ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series has surfaced online. These designs were crafted by production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas, who received an Academy Award nomination in 2011 for Best Achievement in Art Direction for ‘Inception.’

Back in 2001, Bryan Singer was set to direct a ‘Battlestar Galactica’ series for Fox that was essentially a sequel to the original 1978 series. It would’ve taken place 20 years after the original series ended with people colonizing New Caprica instead of continuing their search for the lost colony of Earth. Over the next two decades, the people of New Caprica indulge in a variety of luxurious vices including pleasure domes and gambling. However, the Cylons find their way to New Caprica and ambush the colonists.

Development for the project was underway, but then 9/11 happened. Network executives thought the storyline would be in poor taste after the terrorist attack and the project was shut down.

The concept art features an updated version of Cylons and some nifty designs of the Cylon Raiders and their Base Star. Take a look!
