Ant-Man Evangeline Lilly Corey Stoll

One of the most anticipated panels of San Diego Comic-Con usually belongs to Marvel Studios. Every year, Kevin Feige and company bring out some big surprises that get True Believers all over the world super hyped, and this year was no different. In their Hall H presentation on Saturday, they kicked off the festivities with the first film of Phase Three, ‘Ant-Man.’

Despite the project being in a state of flux since Edgar Wright vacated the director’s chair, things seem to be back on track as production is set to begin on August 18th. During the panel, it was revealed that two of Hollywood’s finest are officially part of the cast. Marvel.com reports that Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll will respectively play the female lead and the primary antagonist of Peyton Reed’s upcoming movie featuring Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas. Previously, both we rumored to be connected to the project, but now we have confirmation of the castings.

Lilly, who is known for her roles on ‘Lost’ and Peter Jackson’s ‘Hobbit‘ trilogy, will play the daughter of Hank Pym. However, her character’s name is somewhat disputed since some reports say that she will be Hope Pym, while others report that it’s Hope Van Dyne. The actress herself doesn’t even know since she hasn’t received a script since it was reworked by ‘Anchorman’ director Adam McKay. Either way, she’s definitely the offspring of Marvel’s size-shifting scientist supreme. Now the question is if she’ll eventually become the Wasp, the heroic mantle taken up by her mother Janet Van Dyne, or the villainous Red Queen from one of Marvel’s many alternate timelines.

As for Stoll, he’ll be playing the part of Darren Cross AKA Yellowjacket. The actor from Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Strain’, Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’, and Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight In Paris’ described his character as a former mentee of Douglas’ Pym, but somewhere along the line their goals diverge and they become adversaries.
