There hasn’t been much news about the upcoming film ‘Pixels‘ but we just found that Ashley Benson (‘Pretty Little Liars’, ‘A Visit from the Goon Squad’) is joining the cast. Last we heard, Peter Dinklage (‘Game of Thrones’,’X-Men: Days of Future Past‘) was joining Adam Sandler (‘You Don’t Mess with the Zohan’, ’Coneheads’), Kevin James, Josh Gad, Michelle Monaghan, and Brian Cox in this feature length film based off of a 2 minute short! Talk about a lucky break for Patrick Jean, the creator of the original, and if you’ve seen the short, you’ll know why it got picked up. If you haven’t? Well you can check it out for yourself below!
This action comedy utilizes a slew of video game characters that were popular in the 1980s laying waste to New York. Think ‘Wreck It Ralph‘ trying to take down The Big Apple. The full length feature will show aliens who mistakenly think that feeds of the games that they are seeing is actually a declaration of war from the Earth.
For some reason that leads them to use models from the various assaults that they’ve seen in order to base their attack. This gives us the 80s pixelated look for some of the action sequences during the movie.
To save the Earth, President Will Cooper (James) asks his childhood friend Sam Brenner (Sandler) who is the 80s video game champion to lead a team of old-school gamers (Dinklage and Gad) to plan the attack to defeat the alien menage and save the planet. Benson has been assigned to play Lady Lisa who is a warrior from a fictional 80s video game titled ‘Dojo Quest’ in the film.
