You could almost call this the summer of the super heroes with so many spandex clad adventurers headed for the big screen.  Included is Andrew Garfield reprising the role of a certain famous wall-crawler in the sequel ‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’.  In this outing, Spidey is really put to the test, facing off against three colorful villains, the Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and Electro (Jamie Foxx).

In the new promotional image above, you can see Spider-Man helping out the disheveled Max Dillon, a.k.a. Electro before he mutates into an electrically charged menace.  (The inserted image is most likely from between takes with Garfield maskless, joking around with Foxx.)

An accompanying clip was released on the network Starz.  Unfortunately a high quality version hasn’t surfaced online, but if you really want to see it, a low quality (as in, I think someone filmed it off their TV with their phone) version appears below:

The nerdy spin on Max Dillon surfaces below in another new photo, this time showing him face-to-face with Alistair Smythe portrayed by B.J. Novak.

The following is a breakdown of the photo by a fan, speculating on Smythe’s role in the film:

Smythe’s biggest contribution in the comics is the creation of the various Spider-Slayers, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see those factor in in some capacity.  This fan also speculates that Smythe will have a hand in the creation of the various devices employed by Spider-Man’s other foes, many of whom will assemble as the Sinister Six in a future movie.

Finally, check out this high resolution clip from the actual movie, depicting Spider-Man swinging his way across the New York City skyline.

Is Spider-Man going to prove to be the hero of the summer?  He’s facing some stiff competition but will three colorful bad guys (two played by critically acclaimed and award winning actors) plus a more romantic tone help ol’ Webhead distinguish himself?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be directed by Marc Webb from a script written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Jeff Pinkner and James Vanderbilt. The film will star Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field as Aunt May, Paul Giamatti as Rhino, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn and Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn. The Amazing Spider-Man sequel will swing into theaters May 2, 2014.
