Fans of Ronald D. Moore’s (‘Battlestar Galactica‘ , ‘Outlander‘) first season of ‘Helix‘ are going to be quite happy to hear that the show has been renewed for a second season! After his last Syfy series, ‘Caprica‘, was cancelled after one season, it would be easy to worry about the network greenlighting a second one. Thankfully, ratings prevailed and another 13 episodes have been ordered! Production for Season 2 will begin later this year for a Winter 2015 premiere.

If fans have anything to be upset about, it is how ridiculously long we have to wait for the follow up to hit television as that’ll be over a year and a half off the air. That’s one way to cause a loss of interest in a show. Is Moore turning into the whipping boy of Syfy destined to have his shows cancelled like Whedon’s shows on Fox? It almost feels that way. Thankfully the ratings really did make it a requirement that they make another season, I just find it shocking we have to wait so long for it to air. With ratings of 2.1 million total viewers, you would think there would have been a larger push to have it back on the air sooner.

According to the EVP of original content at Syfy, Bill McGoldrick:

“Helix has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy. The incredibly talented writing and producing team have crafted a thriller that consistently delivered suspense, twists and high quality drama. We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season.”

While that sounds great, I’m still of the opinion of thinking this extended delay will hurt more then help growing the audience.

What do you think of the second season being so delayed? Do you think someone has it out for Moore on Syfy or is this just a run of bad luck on the delay? Share your thoughts below!
