You may remember him as Thresh in ‘The Hunger Games’, but Nigerian-born actor Dayo Okeniyi has landed another role in a big-budget science fiction film, ‘The Terminator’ reboot, ‘Terminator: Genesis’!  He will play the son of Miles Dyson, the Director of Special Projects at Cyberdyne Systems from ‘Terminator 2: Judgement Day’, Miles Dyson, portrayed by Joe Morton in the 1991 film and the character inadvertently led to the creation of Skynet, the Big Bad of the movie franchise.  Okeniyi will play Danny Dyson, Miles’ son.

Okeniyi beat out John Boyega for the role of Danny.  A younger version of this character was depicted in earlier movies.

It isn’t clear how big a role this is, but it was announced that this new ‘Terminator’ flick is the first of a larger trilogy, so it’s possible that Okeniyi may ride this train to stardom.

His character is described as, “The young man holds the key to technology development that makes Skynet possible.”

The movie also stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, reprising his role as a cybernetic assassin, as well as Emilia Clarke taking on the role of Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke (no relation) as John Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese.  ‘Spider-Man”s J.K. Simmons is in it too, but his role hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Okeniyi, incidentally, was in something of a bidding war as he was also being sought after to play a major role in J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Wars’ relaunch.  (I’m sure they’ll be fine.)

‘Terminator: Genesis’ should arrive in theaters on July 1st, 2015.  It will be directed by Alan Ball.

What do you think?  Are you excited to see the ‘Terminator’ franchise carry on with a new cast and story line?
