The cast of Edgar Wright’s long-gestating Marvel movie, ‘Ant-Man’, is finally starting to come together. About two months ago, Paul Rudd joined the project, followed by Michael Douglas, as the two leading men in the story, Scott Lang and Hank Pym. Then, there were talks of Michael Pena and Evangeline Lilly boarding the production as well in unspecified roles. Now, another interesting name appears to be stepping into the world of the size-shifting Scientist Supreme.

After starring as Nite Owl in the adaptation of DC Comics’ seminal comic book series ‘Watchmen’ by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, it looks like Patrick Wilson is jumping over to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline dropped the news earlier this week, but no further details were available. However, there is an interesting theory that could fit the actor perfectly. They speculate that Wilson could be playing Darren Cross, the owner of Cross Technology Enterprises that has ties to Lang’s origin story. Cross is somewhat like Tony Stark in that he has a rare heart defect and uses futuristic technology to keep him alive. He crosses paths with the desperate thief-turned-superhero when they both approach accomplished surgeon Erica Sondheim. While Cross is looking to cure himself, Lang seeks help on behalf of his daughter, Cassie. Reports indicate that Wright’s narrative will involve Lang’s mission to save his daughter, so it wouldn’t be completely out of left field to include Wilson as Cross. Also, it would make sense to have Lilly play Sondheim as opposed to a modified version of Janet Van Dyne or Jessica Drew.

This isn’t the first time that Wilson’s name has been connected to the ‘Ant-Man’ project. For years, fans have said that he would be a great fit for the first man to take up the mantle of the titular character that ultimately went to Douglas, but now it looks like he’ll be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a different capacity.
