Ever since the masses have been teased about the upcoming sequel to ‘Man of Steel‘ everyone has been pretty excited. One of the main selling points so far is that we’ve all been getting the vibe for quite some time that the film will be called ‘Batman vs. Superman’. The thing is, though, that Warner Brothers has really never formally announced the name of the film or verified the rumor.

So why is that being brought into question now? Well it appears that Warner Brothers just went on a domain buying spree. It’s unknown if the movie title has yet to be decided or if these are for some form of a spin off but here’s what they registered:

  • Man of Steel Battle the Knight
  • Man of Steel Beyond Darkness
  • Man of Steel Black of Knight
  • Man of Steel Darkness Falls
  • Man of Steel Knight Falls
  • Man of Steel Shadow of the Night
  • Man of Steel The Blackest Hour
  • Man of Steel The Darkness Within

They also registered the shortened versions of each of these such as just “Battle the Knight” and “Beyond Darkness”. So does this mean that the name we’ve been using so much as of late is wrong? Right now the studio could be working on tie-ins though I have the sneaky suspicion that a name change is going to occur and the officially announced name won’t be ‘Batman vs. Superman’.

I hope I’m wrong.

No offense to ‘Man of Steel‘ as the film clearly did great at the box office but the studio has a chance here to finally try to create a cohesive cinematic universe such as Marvel has so successfully done and DC is starting to do on television. If the title retains ‘Man of Steel’ it honestly feels like more of a Superman sequel than a tact to start introducing the big DC hitters and really expand the franchise with open ended crossovers galore. It already appears that they seem to want to introduce Nightwing and possibly even opening the door to Wonder Woman, and if both of those rumors prove true they really should be banking on the big names in their movie titles.

That being said, I get all of the names above. It’s a film that evokes images of a world where Superman and Batman are meeting for the first time. It pushes the self doubt that Clark may now be feeling for having to take a life and not being able to prevent all of the destruction that occurred in Metropolis. There are a lot of things they can touch on in a movie with DC’s too most recognizable heroes and rumor that a third of their biggest heroes will be in the movie.

What do you think DC fans, should they retain the ‘Batman vs. Superman’ title or go with one of the new ones listed above? If one of the new ones which one is your favorite?
