OK I’m not going to lie, I’m getting a little annoyed with Bruce Campbell’s back and forth as to whether ‘Army of Darkness 2’ is going to happen or not. It all started about 6 months ago when he clearly stated, “There is no storyline. There’s zero storyline. There’s nothing, no ideas, there are random thoughts on a couple of snaps of paper, napkins and menus. Beyond that, this is a story that has to be pulled out of Sam’s brain..”

Not a very promising statement. That comment was then followed up by him saying about 2 weeks ago “The last one was 22 years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.”

On top of that, about a week ago Fede Alvarez (‘Evil Dead‘) tweeted that Sam Raimi will be directing ‘Army of Darkness 2’. The rumor also indicated that Alvarez would not be directing ‘Evil Dead 2’. He later reached out to Bloody-Disgusting to clarify that rumor by saying that “Rodo meant we’re not actually making ‘Evil Dead 2′ right now because the priority is Sam’s ‘Army of Darkness 2.”

So it looked like the film was back on track right? Now during an interview at Stan Lee’s Comikaze when asked about the rumors, Campbell has once again gone back to his original statement saying:

“It’s all Internet b.s. – there’s no reality whatsoever. These random comments slip out of my mouth or Sam Raimi’s mouth, next thing you know, we’re making a sequel.”

So first he went on record saying it was real and now is backing out of that? I think at this point with how many times Campbell has mentioned working with Raimi, as well as Fede chiming in with multiple sources that it’s going to happen, I personally believe ‘Army of Darkness 2’ is in the works. Either Campbell is sick of being asked about it or is messing with the fan base, who knows? That may be wishful thinking on my part, but with how much that has been said, it just seems to me that it’s a go.

How about it folks? Am I wrong on this and we’ll never see an ‘Army of Darkness 2’? Or is Campbell just messing with all of us and a sequel is really in the works?
