Ever since the trailer for ‘R.I.P.D.’ was released, may were scratching their heads thinking how it looked all too familiar and similar to ‘Men in Black’. Well, the two films have a lot more in common than you think, and thanks to Next Movie, you can decide if ‘R.I.P.D.’ is just another ‘M.I.B.’ with ghosts.

Besides the fact that both properties come from the comic book world, deal with a secret law enforcement entity and focuses on a pair of LEO’s where one is a cantankerous older gent teamed up with a young newbie, one would think the resemblance stops there. However, as you see in the video below, the two films even share similar scenes – and this is only the ones seen in the trailer!

It doesn’t help that both properties are from Universal and it’s understandable that the studio may want to cash in on the memories of a film that launched a franchise. Not too many movie goers knew what ‘Men in Black’ was before it came out in 1997, much like ‘R.I.P.D.’ now.

Some analysts are predicting the $130 million budgeted Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges film will be one of this year’s biggest box office failures forecasting that it will only take in about $15 million in its opening weekend against the films ‘Turbo’ and ‘The Conjuring’ also debuting at the same time.

So check out the comparison below and let us know if you agree. Will you be spending money to see the ‘R.I.P.D.’ in theaters or will you just stay home and re-watch Will Smith get jiggy with aliens?

‘R.I.P.D.’ stars Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon, Mary-Louis Parker, James Hong and Marissa Miller and will be in theaters on July 19th.

Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds headline the 3D supernatural action-adventure R.I.P.D. as two cops dispatched by the otherworldly Rest In Peace Department to protect and serve the living from an increasingly destructive array of souls who refuse to move peacefully to the other side.

Veteran sheriff Roy Pulsifer (Bridges) has spent his career with the legendary police force known as R.I.P.D. tracking monstrous spirits who are cleverly disguised as ordinary people.  His mission?  To arrest and bring to justice a special brand of criminals trying to escape final judgment by hiding among the unsuspecting on Earth.

Once the wise-cracking Roy is assigned former rising-star detective Nick Walker (Reynolds) as his junior officer, the new partners have to turn grudging respect into top-notch teamwork.  When they uncover a plot that could end life as we know it, two of R.I.P.D.’s finest must miraculously restore the cosmic balance…or watch the tunnel to the afterlife begin sending angry souls the very wrong way.
