First the bad news.  There will be no Hobbit presence at San Diego Comic-Con this year.  Director Peter Jackson is currently filming “pick ups” (additional footage) with most of the cast, so unfortunately, there was really no one available to represent the film at the pop culture mecca. But he did provide the following production video where he explains his absence and gives fans a glimpse behind the Hollywood curtain to witness the cast and crew as they craft the second installment in The Hobbit trilogy:

“The problem is that I’m so busy shooting, working six days a week trying to get these pickups done that every hour that I spend focusing on a really great reel for Comic-Con—and it would have to be great—would be hours spent away from the vital job of making the second and third ‘Hobbit’ films as cool as they can possibly be.”

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is adapted from the classic J.R.R. Tolkien novel, detailing the adventures of Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he accompanied wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and a band of dwarves as they seek to reclaim the kingdom of Erebor.  The film opens this Christmas season, on December 13th, in 2D, 3D and IMAX.
