Director Baltasar Kormakur, whose recent projects include Contraband and 2 Guns, has teamed up with EVE Online developer CCP games to bring the popular MMORPG to television.

EVE Online is set 20,000 years in the future, after space travel and colonization has become an everyday thing, and war rages on between several factions. The game is heavily focused on a player-run economy and the idea of choice and consequence, as each player is able to take on a variety of different professions rather than simply being put in the shoes of yet another soldier. It is all about players creating their own memories and stories, as well, and Kormakur is looking to bring this player control into the TV series.

The series will be an original concept by Kormakur and other writers, and will feature original characters set in the EVE universe. However, not every story will be dictated by the show’s writers, as they will be drawing from user-submitted stories from the official EVE website, allowing viewers and fans of the MMO to have a direct impact on the show.

As of now, there is no expected release date due to Kormakur being tied-up with several other projects. ScienceFiction.com will have more updates as they come, so make sure you keep checking back here for more details.
