The tendency for studios to reveal the first few minutes of a movie is becoming a trend. Just this year alone the first minutes of ‘John Carter,’ ‘The Awakening, ‘ ‘Lock Out,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ and most recently ‘Warm Bodies’ are just a few that the studios have put out to try and entice movie goers to see the films. Now the horror film ‘Maniac’ is getting it a turn.

‘Maniac’ stars Elijah Wood as Frank, the owner of a mannequin shop who is rather shy and a bit reclusive but has a nasty obsession with pretty young women whom he enjoys killing and scalping.

Yes, this is a far cry from the Hobbit of past, but Wood has the ability in this video to make you forget that he was even part of Middle Earth. Don’t forget, however, he did an excellent job as a psycho in Robert Rodriguez’ ‘Sin’City,’ so this characterization is not something new for him.

‘Maniac’ is a remake of the 1980 horror flick of the same name with this version  being directed by Frank Khalfoun (‘P2’) from a script by Alexandre Aja (‘Horns,’ ‘The Hills Have Eyes’) and Gregory Levasseur (‘The Hills Have Eyes,’ ‘Piranha’).

While the film has been making the festival rounds this year, there doesn’t look like a date for a US release has been determined. It is, however, slated to be released in the UK on March 15, 2013.
