‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Domestic And International Teaser Trailers Have Arrived!

As promised, the teaser trailer for ‘Star Trek into Darkness’ has hit and we have both the domestic and international versions for you to see!

J.J. Abrams is notorious for his demand on secrecy for his projects and it still holds true with these teasers. If you were hoping that the teasers would finally reveal who the villain Benedict Cumberbatch is playing then don’t hold your breath. It looks like Abrams is waiting until the last minute for that reveal! Or is he…?

The very first words uttered in what the industry is now calling an “announcement video,”  sends chills of excitement for any Trekkie. “You think your world is safe,” Cumberbatch says in a voice over, “It is an illusion, a comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace. For I have returned. To have. My. Vengeance.”

Returned? Is it someone we know from the past? Check out the first of the two announcement videos that we have for you right now:

‘Star Trek into Darkness’ Domestic Trailer:

But wait! We have more! While the domestic trailer may not have given a hint of who the villain in the film is, the Japanese trailer may!

There’s 12 extra seconds in the Japanese trailer that wasn’t in the one above. What’s a mere 12 seconds? Lots! Abrams 3 frame preview on the ‘Conan’ show gave us a glimpse of Spock on a fiery terrain. 12 seconds equates to a full extra scene!

For those who wish not to have the film spoiled for you then you may want to stop here as this trailer can be considered a spoiler – especially the end image for the diehard Trekkies:

‘Star Trek into Darkness’ International Trailer:

“Is there anything you would not do for your family?…” It looks like Kirk may have to make a difficult decision. Whether the last image of two hands together through a pane of glass is an important part of the film or a gesture paying homage to a very important and successful ‘Star Trek’ film in the franchise is unknown, but I will now leave it to you.

What do you think it all means? Do you think you know who Cumberbatch’s villian is from the videos? Then let us know in the comments below!

‘Star Trek into Darkness’ opens in theaters on May 17, 2013.

Yup. Both the international and domestic trailers have arrived. Aren’t you excited?

My main guess is Gary Mitchell. The main plot of Into Darkness has been described as Kirk answering for his decisions he’s made as captain of the Enterprise and having a plot line with Gary Mitchell would fit perfectly into this. Kirk had to put down Mitchell in the original series. However, no body was recovered from the scene. No body, no death. This would make sense regarding the Starfleet uniform seen worn by Cumberbatch in the trailer as Mitchell was once part of Starfleet. Yet, the scene between Kirk and Spock in the international trailer eludes to Wrath of Khan. Khan was given a Starfleet uniform to wear at one point in time on the show which would tie up Cumberbatch wearing one, but I just don’t see them having the time to explain Khan’s exile. Remember, the movie is about Kirk’s past decisions and how they are coming back to him in full circle. For all we know, Cumberbatch could be playing Khan’s son from an alternate timeline. He did have a wife so why not kids? Abrams has stated that this Star Trek universe is branching off a different timeline than the original series so he can pretty much do whatever he wants. Time travel/travel between dimensions has already been introduced once in the first film and seems to be a big staple of the new series. Abrams might be making it a theme of sorts, but who can rightly know.

Mmmmm, that is an interesting insight on what could happen. As much as I hate that they aren’t giving out more details of the movie, I am glad at the same time. Many movies lately I feel I have already seen or know all there is to know about them before I even buy my ticket to see them. Guess we have to wait and see how this all unfolds.
