Word from Deadline is that the 2010 hit ‘Insidious’ (from ‘Saw’ creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan) just got the go-ahead for a sequel. The first film was about parents (Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne) who were parents of a young boy who becomes a vessel for demonic forces trying to break through into Earth.

The first film was a low budget breakout hit. With a budget of only $1.5 million, ‘Insidious’ ended up pulling in almost $100 million in profit. With numbers like those, it is no surprise that a sequel is under way. Just after the original ‘Insidious’ hit theaters, the movie’s producer Jason Blum said that a sequel was possible. That was of course if writer Leigh Whannell and director James Wan could come up with a good enough story idea for it to work.

It seems like that’s now the case since Whannell is back on board to write the script for ‘Insidious 2’ and Wan will be returning to the director’s chair. There’s no word yet on the story or who, if anyone, will be returning from the original cast but ‘Insidious 2’ is expected to hit theaters in 2013.

Stay tuned for more details as we get them. Here’s hoping that they don’t ruin a song for me like they did ‘Tiptoe Through the Tulips’ in the first film.
