When ‘Pacific Rim’ is released next year, it will have been 5 years since a film directed by Guillermo del Toro hit the big screen.  So it’s no surprise that this movie is gaining a lot of buzz and all eyes are looking at the director to see what he’s created.

Del Toro had done an interview with LA Times’ Geoff Boucher last month right before he was scheduled to appear in Hall H to talk about his robots vs. monsters film and we have the video for you to see! In it, del Toro gives insight as to why he decided not to use motion caption, his love of the anime/giant robot genre, the application of real science and physics with the movements of the robots, his affection for Godzilla and how the last 4 years has prepared him to make ‘Pacific Rim.’

The 15 minute interview is a great watch and just makes me more excited to see the trailer that is expected to come out in a couple months.

Here’s the official synopsis for the movie followed by the video of his interview:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
