I found it interesting that they specifically named Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Black Widow.  Looks like they’re cashing in on the success of Marvel’s The Avengers at the box office.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that!  Anything to spread awareness!

What do you think?  Will you be picking up any of these pink variant covers?  Comment below!

Nope. Not buying these. I am disappointed in Marvel selling out like this.

    • Flashman

Is Marvel being paid to do this?

      • Irish1

No, not the opposite.  Marvel will will actually provide Komen with funding from the sales of the comics.  Komen provides women across the US and many other places throughout the world with life saving screening and other services.  They also have a large research portfolio (they are the second largest funder of breast cancer research in the world – second only to the US govt.)  So, whether or not you agree with every decision they make…they help the most vulnerable women get access to care.

        • Flashman

Thanks, I must confess to being a bit perplexed by the hate shown here.

    • JasonMBowles

       Selling out?  it’s charity!

  • MM237

They’re doing it for a good cause, but they should find another organization to support, one that isn’t hypocritical. You cannot say “everyone deserves a lifetime” and then give money to a group that kills thousands of helpless human beings every year. Everyone should mean just that, everyone. And on top of that, it’s perpetuating the very disease they want to cure. The link is irrefutable. They should never have cowed to leftist pressure and stood firm in defunding PP.

    • Flashman

Sorry, what? Care to clue up someone not au fait with US medical care politics?

      • Cynthia

Flashman, someone would have to clue in MM237 first. Essentially, he’s referring to the fact that 17 of the 120 Susan G Komen Affiliates in the Nation, provide grants funding to planned Parenthood clinics to provide breast cancer and breast health clinical exams and screenings. This is done through a grants process, leaving no room for the funding to be used for any other purpose. Be careful what you read online, unfortunately there are more people talking about things they don’t understand, than listening to facts……but isn’t that just our nature

        • Flashman

Ok cheers, I figured MM237 was alluding to something along those lines.

  • Cynthia

Hooray!! I love Marvel and even more so now! Where can I get my copies!! Way to go and THANK YOU for doing your own research and understanding how Susan G. Komen operates and supports our local communities. I can’t wait for these to be released.

  • Erika

I wish they would have teamed up with the american cancer society instead of komen. By now I think the “awareness” phase of breast cancer is saturated enough and Komen spends a lot of money on advertising.

    • Cynthia

Erika, I’m very involved with a local Komen Affiliate and I want to share with you that though it appears hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent to promote our local Race for the Cure, that advertising is provided to our affiliate free of charge and considered an In-Kind Sponsorship in support of our largest fundraising effort. it doesn’t cost the organization a dime and in fact, there is less than a $200 per year advertisng budget for this. Things are not always….what they appear to be.

      • JasonMBowles

Thank you for the information, Cynthia!

        • Cynthia

Thanks for the forum Jason, there’s a great deal of misleading information floating around about Komen and they do outstanding work in our communities.
