Last night during the premiere of ‘America’s Got Talent,’ Sony Pictures unveiled a 4 minute super preview trailer for ‘The Amazing Spider-Man.’ For those of you wondering, a super preview is about 90 seconds on an extended action sequence followed by two and a half minutes of trailer.

In this super preview, the trailer portion is pretty much the same trailer that was released about 2 weeks ago but it’s the first portion of the preview that had me really excited about this film. The sequence involves Spider-Man trying to save the numerous cars that have been knocked off a bridge by none other than the Lizard himself. It also reminds you why Spider-Man is such a relatable superhero as he tries to save a young kid from a car ready to fall into the river below. Based on the various footage seen in this super preview, ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is definitely one movie that needs to be seen in IMAX 3D.

If ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is not on your list to see this summer, it should be! If you don’t believe me, see for yourself in the super preview below…

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ Super Preview:

‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ is directed by Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, and Dennis Leary. It comes to theaters in 2D, 3D, IMAX, and IMAX 3D on July 3, 2012.

Too bad they felt they had to do the stupid reboot/origin story yet again.  Probably be a fun movie, but we all know how he got to be Spiderman.  Why not move beyond the origin story?

Moving beyond is exactly what this one is doing. It’s giving his origin an extra story that wasn’t there in the original tale. Besides… the last few Spider-Man flicks were far from perfect.

“Giving his origin an extra story,” is not moving beyond.  It’s rebooting and retelling.

But you’re right, Spiderman 3 was terrible.

Maybe but you said “we all know how he got to be Spider-Man” but, with the new story, that’s exactly it… you DON’T know how he became Spider-Man. The new movie will make it more than just a random encounter with a radioactive spider.

All that is is an extra bit tacked on.  To a certain degree it’s not all that important on how he became the superhero, it’s more important what he does as that superhero.

And if they do wind up radically changing the origin story, then it’s not Spiderman, it’s another guy with his name and similar abilities.

It’s a bit like the Marvel mangling of the Thor-Loki relationship.  Loki was Odin’s (Thor’s father) blood brother and Thor’s occasional traveling companion, he was never Thor’s adopted brother.  The relationship Loki had with Odin was a key aspect of why he got away with all the stuff he did in the original myths.

Or you can look at all the Disney mangling of the old fairy tales.  They are not really the same people as in the original stories when they’re changed that much.

Maybe it’s just that I like the original stories better, I think they have more complexity and are more interesting than most of the revisions.

I like to liken this movie as to how Chris Nolan rebooted and retold Batman so I find this as an interesting take on Spider-Man’s story.

Eh… Trailer certainly looks a bit more interesting, but still not looking forward to it. As far as being this summer’s most anticipated flick, I suppose technically, but push the avengers back a month or so and it would have easily claimed that title. Not sure this movie will live up to the hype they’re trying to generate for it.
